STOLL Machine Knitting and Programming
Coral Wars
This garment was exhibited in the Kent State Fashion Show in April 2019 and also submitted and exhibited at the 2019 ITAA Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The project board shows the inspiration, concept designs, and final garment and knit programming image. The final garment was knit on a Stoll CSM 520 C+ 1.5.2 gauge machine using every other needle to create a less dense fabric to counter the seven different yarns incorporated. The garment’s texture which resembles a coral reef was obtained from abstracting the word "coral" is by altering the size, font, and direction as seen in the program file.
Textural
Inspired by the 40,000 basalt columns that make up the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland. The garment was an exploration in creating a texture much like the hexagonal column tops of the Giants Causeway seen at the ocean’s edge. This exploration with knitwear was achieved by adding an elastic fiber to one of the colors for tension to create a scrunching/ puckering effect on the other color. This garment was knit on a Stoll CMS ADF-3 multi-gauge knitting machine.
